Midwesterner, girl-next-door/rebel, artist Angie Schwickerath was born in 1962, and as a girl, lived in a small town in Iowa, where she felt her feet on the ground with her head in the clouds. Her paintings are based in realism, with impressionistic and abstract leanings, inhabiting the physical as well as inner worlds, rendered in beautiful watercolor and oil paint.

She began painting in oils, with an emphasis on figures, while studying at Colorado College. Upon graduating with a BA in Studio Art in 1993, Schwickerath chose to be a “stay-at-home mom”, and while her sons were at school, she painted in her home studio, concentrating on the subject of the still life for 20 years, honing her skills of observation and painting technique. In recent years, she has been inspired by road trip travels and has become known for her landscapes, which were most recently exhibited in the Deco Lounge at the Colorado Springs Fines Arts Center (November 2022 - January 2023). In The World Behind The World, Schwickerath combines her love of land and sea and human (and animal) beings into scenes of a personal and moody nature.

Her artwork has been exhibited in Brooklyn, Denver, Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs, where she has lived since 1982. Her paintings can be found in private collections across the country.
